Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India has reported progress on its freight corridor project. As of June 2016, DFCCIL has awarded a a power transmission, electrification project to a consortium of L & T and Instalaciones Inabensa S.A Spain. The project involves electrification works for 417 km section of the Eastern DFC ( Dedicated Freight Corridor from Mughalsarai to New Bhaupur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The work includes construction of 7 traction substations, 18 switching stations, 991 track km of Overhead Equipment, SCADA and Electrical & Mechanical works along with supply of all associated equipment. This section will be designed for 2 x 25 kV traction power system with overhead equipment suitable for dedicated freight transport. This is a part of 1856 km Eastern DFC proposed between Sahnewal ( Ludhiana ) and Dankuni ( Near Kolkata) via Mughalsarai .
