West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Corporation is planning to set up 30 MW solar power projects at three different locations in the state. As of August 2016, WBSEDCL has awarded a Rs.1690 million contract to BHEL. Three SPV plants of 10 MW each are to be set up at Mejia (Bankura), Santaldih (Purulia) and Chharrah (Purulia) in West Bengal. BHEL manufactures solar cells and modules at its Electronics Division unit in Bengaluru, while space- grade solar panels using high efficiency cells and space-grade Battery panels are manufactured at its Electronic Systems Division, also in Bengaluru.
