Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation is planning to implement the Karjat-Panvel railway line project which is a part of Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III) . The project will be part funded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and CIDCO. As of June 2014, Maharashtra government has given in-principle approval for the project.
